Whippet Wins...

A Whippet wolfs over The Wolf

Monday and a few texts organised one Whippet and one Wolf a walking meet up. Okami sauntered around the river and through the trees, waiting for his mate to run down the small hill to his side. Which like usual she immediately started nipping, a hello that to most would look strange or possibly aggressively, to the two dogs affection. Once the two are united no dog or interruption distracts them or their adventures. Today the two bumped into a huge class of children on a walk through the woods, which Okami tried to join and hide amongst the children. Through the sunny golf course and across the common where Poppy, now in a routine fashion managed to find another vole to play with.

This morning Fran and I were discussing the peculiar relationship between our dogs, something that needs to be seen than can be spoken about. An unusual pairing, both such different dogs, the king of the working dogs and a small racing sight hound. We owe it to a chance meet while out with my husband Kwong and Poppy's Dad, Tom. An immediate bond between the two puppies, luckily all the owners get on too really.

Today we did ponder over who really was the boss?

Springer's in Spring...

Two Spaniels and One Wolf

Okami bumped into his two favourite Springers a few days ago on a lovely walk. Only puppies themselves and darling girls, Okami was immediately taken by them and them him, once over his size. The two simply follow him, sniffing where he does and playing with the wolf. Its a very classic and sweet big brother friendship and makes me smile. They have grown so fast over the last few months that we have been meeting them in the woods and both lovely wee dogs.

Long Shadows of Spring...

A Walk on the Wolf's Side

During the mornings, the wolf and I have noticed how long the shadows are cast by the early sun. The shadows danced about the woods too, in contrast to the bright white of the sun. Again the bluebells glowed their blue hue telling us Spring is truly here. The last few days have been relaxing, long walks in sunshine, blue skies that rival more exotic locations. Okami and I never worry about the weather, personally speaking, for myself the drama of the angry thunderstorm I would miss if everyday was blue. However the longer days is something I never take for granted during the warmer seasons and makes for nicer evening strolls along the river.

And so, after adventures and meeting with Okami's best friend, Poppy and her cousins, Teddy and Dolly, (The Cockerpoos) one wolf puppy was very exhausted, curling up next to the piano in the cool cottage for the afternoon.

Bells in the Wood...

Wolf in Bluebells

This morning the sun was low and began to warm the wood, fields and area slowly. Almost crisp and cool, perfect Spring weather for the wolf. The blue in the woods shone as the sunlight broke through in streams. A wonderful glow of blue and purple amongst the greens and delicate white flowers. Okami was happy, content today, wandering and picking paths through the flowers and woodland. Every now and then glancing back to see if I followed. In the light Okami looked a near ghost, luminescent against the trees and foliage.

Spring Village...

Wolf in The Village

Back from Scotland and back to life in the village. The wolf was happy to be home, roaming with friends, human and canine. His favourite butcher waved a hello, the school children stroked him and a women's football team gave him cuddles. For Okami, the village and its residents are his family, as he walks he smiles to all. There were two furry faces he missed however, those of Poppy the Whippet and Keira the Keeshond.

The bluebells have finally made their carpet around the woods which one lone wolf ran through with much pleasure before he met with his friends. The golf course, a cut through to the grassy rolling common, was peaceful under the sun, the grass perfect with dew, lapped at by Okami. Poppy soon had the wolf rolled on his back in their favourite field though. The cottage, now bathed in late warm sunshine is home for one wolf and pom, content laying in the shade together after Spring adventures.

Wild Bonny Scotland...

Wolf on the Loch

Easter, our now ritualistic journey to Glasgow began. The drive to Glasgow one we knew well and could do in under six hours, our home from home. Bar the West Country, Scotland is where we would ideally go back to live. For any that haven't visited, please do. The West Coast is beautiful and the City of Glasgow, a city you will fall in love with, culturally and the people. The architecture, museums, art galleries and parks are all familiar and when away I do miss them, despite the distractions of my lovely village.

Kwong and I ventured to a much loved part of Scotland, Loch Lomond. Its hikes through woodland and the peaks offering views of snow capped mountains. It was the favourite walk of my beloved Westie, Jack. His last trip up the inclines in snow. On this, Okami's first hike up, the sun shined and skies were the purest blue. It truly was magnificent.

After our hike up and down we drove to the Lomond Shores, lucking out with a food festival. All enjoyed Lomond's venison and many goodies from local people. Okami was spoilt with some great liver cake and biscuit after his venison. I think it was the highly amusing dog cafe, 'Dug Cafe' that made the trip perfect however and made me think of Japan. A bar with a huge variety of dog treats you could chose and fill a paper bag, cakes and tea or coffee for the humans. The amusing dog photobooth and fun atmosphere makes it a great destination for dog owners.
